The Somalis are a tight knit community that does not easily welcome outsiders. It is a testimony to God’s favor and the team’s perseverance that they have been able to start two Discovery Bible Studies (DBS). A Somali believer they met really appreciated their approach to his people and has joined the team bringing their number to seven.
Two women from in the DBS have decided to follow Jesus but are not identifying as Christians – a decision the team is supporting given the very negative connotation the term has among Somali Muslims. For many Muslims, the term Christian is not associated with Jesus but with anti-Muslim rhetoric and politics. The women are sharing regularly with their family and friends.
Prayer Requests:
- Wisdom and protection for the young believers. Al-Shabaab – an extremist Somali Muslim group – is active in Kenya.
- Wisdom and protection for the distribution of audible scripture portions among the Somali.
- Pray that the Holy Spirit would soften hearts so that Somalis would be receptive to the Gospel and for their eyes to be opened to see the real Jesus.
- Pray that extremist groups would lose their appeal to Somali-Kenyan youth and that their hearts would rather be captured by the radical Jesus.
